Riddle me this...

Why is it that my husband and I are getting the shaft from the family because we don't have babies? I don't understand it!

Okay, so we have a LARGE family. And by large, I mean totally complicated. So, two of the siblings have now had children. Which is great, I love my nephews very much, and I love my sisters in law just as much. What I do not love is the way the entire family seems to be focused solely on the babies and not on the rest of the kids without babies. At least before, certain members would call and make an effort to see us. Now, we're lucky if they call when the babies are coming over. Actually, that's about the only time they call.

So explain to me, why we're being shunned because we're choosing to wait for kids? I don't understand it. I'm choosing to further my education and get my MBA and hubby is choosing to also look into school and go further in his life before we bring any mini-me's into this world. How is that wrong?

I don't get it. I think you should love your children and their wives equally regardless of where they are in their lives.

RIDICULOUS!

O B A M A!!!

Wow...what a terrific day yesterday was. Although I had to work, I managed to see a few snipits from Obama's official oath of office and his speech. I have to say, that yesterday was a day that I will remember for all time.

There are people older than me who didn't think they would see this day in their life time. And then there are people my age or wonder why it took so long for such a day to arrive. I think either way, it's one of the most memorable days I, as an American voter, have ever witnessed. There have been things in our history that have rocked me to the core. And then there have been things that have given me hope, and made me believe that this can be a better country.

Don't get me wrong, I know that Obama is not the end all be all, but I sure hope that he can help pull us out of this downward spiral we are stuck in right now. I have never been a huge fan of G'Dub, but I have always respected him for what he has done. I am glad to see the transfer of power, and hopeful that Obama will continue to work with repulbicans and democrats alike, to find the best solutions for our country.

In no particular order, here's what I think he needs to tackle.
1) Healthcare. It should not cost you 1,000s of dollars to go to the emergency room. And it should not cost you hundreds of dollars on top of that to have the insurance plan in the first place.
2) Education. Our children need it, and they're not getting it. Public schools are declining, and colleges and universities are becoming alomst impossible to afford.
3) Welfare. I'm all for supporting someone when they're down. But we can't afford to have people living off welfare for 20 years! That's ridiculous.
4) Let me invest my retirement money where I want. Stop taking it all and putting into social security that I will never see.
5) Gay/Lesbian Rights. They deserve to get married as much as the straight couple who has been together for 6 months.

I'm sure there will be more as this journey of ours begins. I can't wait to see where he takes us and what we learn along the way.

Here's to Obama, and Michelle Obama. May they lead us in the right direction!

The whole stupid religion debate...in movies

Okay so as most everyone knows, I saw Twilight, loved it, read the series twice afterwards. Love them too. So, to say that I'm excited about the new Director, Chris Weitz, probably is an understatement. I'm SUPER excited about the new director. I think he's going to take the special effects aspect of the movie to new heights. And I'm thrilled!

So this past New Year's, some friends and hubby and I went to dinner and then they came back to our house...not really an important part of the venting, just part of the story. So, towards the end of dinner as we're finishing up our drinks, etc, my friend says that she's not really excited about the new director because he also happens to be the writer of The Golden Compass. And then she goes on to say something about how since he's anti-Christian, she doesn't know if she'll like the movie blah blah blah. So she goes on to talk about how she refused to watch The Golden Compass because of the comments Weitz said before the movie came out, and of course because of his reasoning for writing the screen play in the first place. Apparently the rumors are that he wrote the screen play as a response to the Chronicles of Narnia. And while I may not necessarily agree with his points of view, or the reasoning behind it, to me, the movie business is all about being entertained.

So his being an atheist, doesn't really bother me. I think it will have no bearing on the movie he's now going to direct for the Twilight series. My problem with my friend is that I dont understand why it matters to her either. Why is it that we can make movies about the devil and his/her role in different people's lives, but we can't make movie that shows the other side of Christianity? Are we really that prejudiced against other humans?

I don't understand it. The movie business is about entertainment. You're not always going to agree with what someone has done or what they believe, but either you are entertained, or you're not. The rest shouldn't matter. Plus, I mean, can you really hold a grudge against someone who also worked on About a Boy, and the American Pie series? C'mon! Grow up America, GROW UP!

.....just needed to get that mess off my chest!

Kitchen Painting Debacle

So....finally decided what colors to use in the kitchen. Spend 3 days getting all the wallpaper nastiness painted, and then the hubby and I decide to rip it all down and start fresh.

So, I will spend a week or more getting the kitchen back to looking decent and hopefully will complete a new paint job by the time it's all over and done with.

Don't even want to talk about Texas Tech football for another 6-7 months. All I have to say is that we clearly proved our point, that we really do suck in big time games. It's rather disappointing, but I also don't want to hear that it's just a game, or it was only one game. It may have only been one game, but the outcome was the same as it always is. Make it to the big game, don't show up, put on a poor performance. Classic Tech style. I think I'll go back to being a mean green fan now. At least they don't disappoint!

For the record: big time players make big time plays in big time games.
